Our Top 5 LEGO Star Wars Sets This Year

DROIDS AND DIORAMAS

LEGO Star Wars sets

As 2024 is the 25th Anniversary of LEGO Star Wars, it stands to reason that we have been inundated with new sets, with still more to come. We looked through all the LEGO Star Wars releases this year and compiled a list of our top 5.

Here are our favourite five LEGO Star Wars sets of 2024 so far, in no particular order.

LEGO R2-D2 and LEGO Darth Malak

LEGO 75379 R2-D2

£89.99

This 1,050-piece version of R2-D2 is our favourite rendition of this sassy little droid to date. There are several reasons why we love this set so much; it was a really fun build and the final result is awesome; the bricks come together to capture his shape and details extremely well.

We like the size as he fits nicely in the display with the other LEGO droids - BB8, D-O and BD-1 (a rag-tag band of brothers!). Also, the price of this set is absolutely spot-on for the size, and it makes owning this iconic droid more accessible for a lot more people.

LEGO Darth Malak and LEGO R2-D2

Not forgetting the 25th Anniversary LEGO Minifigure of Darth Malak that accompanies R2-D2. Whilst he may not be as well known to some people as other characters, it’s great to have this Sith Lord in LEGO form. The neck collar with Cybernetic Lower Jaw Prosthesis was a new piece created just for this figure. This is now one of the most highly sought-after LEGO 25th Anniversary figures.

LEGO Captain Rex and His Y-Wing

LEGO 75391 Captain Rex Y-Wing Microfighter

£11.99

This may surprise a lot of you, but we love the LEGO Star Wars Microfighter sets, and this 99-piece set is just as awesome as we had hoped. The Microfighter sets are great value for money, and despite being small, they manage to capture the details of the iconic ships they are replicating extremely well.

LEGO 75391 marks the debut of Captain Rex's Y-wing in the LEGO lineup, making it a fantastic tribute to 25 years of LEGO Star Wars with a fresh addition. The LEGO Captain Rex Minifigure that is included with this set was previously only available with LEGO 75367 Star Wars Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, so if you want this figure in your collection and wish to save £548, pick up LEGO 75391 now.

LEGO Droideka

LEGO 75381 Buildable Droideka

£59.99

We are ecstatic about this 583-piece set because we haven't had a good Droideka since 2000 when the LEGO 8002 Technic Destroyer Droid was introduced. There have been several smaller versions of Droidekas over the years, included with other sets like the LEGO 7163 Republic Gunship and LEGO 75000 Clone Troopers vs. Droidekas.

This release is part of the 25th Anniversary range, but no LEGO Minifigure is included in this set, just a mini buildable Droideka. This set captures the Droideka’s insect-like aesthetic well, and it can roll up into a ball too.

LEGO TIE Interceptor and Pilot

LEGO 75382 TIE Interceptor

£199.99

The latest version of this iconic ship is beautiful. The remodelling that has taken place since the original UCS release in 2000 is very evident. The distinctive wings are more recognisable, and the cockpit has more detail.

The TIE Pilot LEGO Minifigure has also been upgraded. He now has the Imperial logo printed on both upper arms and additional details lower down. The mouse droid is also worthy of mention because, well, it’s a cute little mouse droid!

LEGO Mos Espa Podrace Diorama

LEGO 75380 Mos Espa Podrace Diorama

£69.99

What’s not to love about the LEGO Star Wars Dioramas? LEGO has encapsulated many memorable scenes within the dioramas, and this one is no different. The iconic moment when young Anakin is racing Sebulba for his freedom is perfectly depicted in these 718 bricks.

This is one of our favourites out of all the LEGO Star Wars dioramas, with another being the LEGO 75339 Star Wars Death Star Trash Compactor. Considering their scale, the level of detail depicted in these builds is incredible.

These look awesome on display, but we like to use iDisplayit’s acrylic display cases to keep them looking their brick-built best.

Have you picked up any of these LEGO Star Wars sets? What upcoming releases are you excited for?

HAPPY BUILDING!
