LEGO Round-Up – Star Wars Gunship & Marvel Minifigures

It almost looked like being a quiet week for new LEGO releases, before a new Star Wars Coruscant Guard Gunship appeared from hyperspace, accompanied by a mob of Marvel Superhero Minifigures!

It’s always exciting to witness the arrival of a new Star Wars ship in the space hangar, and there are plenty of contemporary and retro characters to mull over in the latest treasure box of Marvel minifigures from popular MCU films and TV shows new and old.

Both sets will be available from 1^st September 2023. Let’s take a closer look at what’s on offer…

Coruscant Guard Gunship – 75354

£129.99

This new 1,083-piece gunship is similar to the Republic Gunship 75309, although the upcoming September release is almost half the price. Smaller in size, the Coruscant Guard set also has a different colour scheme, with a richer red palette to set it apart from its larger space-faring sibling.

This particular gunship was primarily used at lower altitudes to transport important dignitaries, senators, Jedi and more around the surface of Coruscant. Fans will recognise it primarily from episodes of The Clone Wars animated TV show. The Coruscant Guards themselves were an elite core of shock troopers, relied on to protect their passengers against Separatist threats. The set includes two Coruscant Guard minifigures, along with their leader, Commander Fox.

One of the stand-out features of the new set is the Chancellor Palpatine minifigure in his pre-Sith senatorial robes. We think the Chancellor looks particularly suave in his rich-red clothing and the addition of a combat-ready Senator Padmé Amidala adds to the collectability of this set. If you’re on the fence about whether to invest in the new LEGO 75354 model when you already own the larger 75309 edition, the minifigures may swing your decision.

LEGO Minifigures Marvel Series 2 – 71039

Talking of minifigures, Marvel fans looking to bulk out their brick-built figure collections will be thrilled at this new lucky dip ‘blind box’ coming out in September.

Unfortunately, there is no option to buy all 12 unique characters together. Each box contains 1 mystery figure, so you will have to buy a few if you want to collect them all – or hit some resale websites to fill in the blanks. The new collection includes Agatha Harkness, Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Mr Knight, She-Hulk, The Werewolf, Goliath, Storm, Beast, Wolverine and Echo.

The inclusion of retro-style characters such as the yellow spandex-adorned Wolverine and blue Beast from the classic X-Men cartoons offers fun and unique versions of these iconic superheroes. There are certainly a few we want to add to our wall-mounted and desktop minifigure displays.
