LEGO Round-Up – Concorde Leak & Houses of the World GWP
GIANT CONCORDE LEAKED AND NEW GIFT-WITH-PURCHASE HOUSE REVEALED
EDIT: The Concorde 10318 is now live on the LEGO website, check it out!
Hot off the press – following a leak on X (formerly Twitter) by user TidBricks, rumours are circulating of a huge new LEGO Icons 2,000+ brick model of the Concorde. This iconic plane retired in 2003 following 27 years in the air.
The leak originated from 9to5toys.com, which has a long history of reporting on LEGO set rumours. The new 10318 set will be a UCS model in all but name, with a high brick count and large scale, perfect for gracing the collection of anyone interested in aviation history. The official LEGO X page have also released their own brief teaser.
For now, we only have the box art to look at, though images do reveal the impressive length of the aircraft, plus detailed interiors that include seating and room for baggage. We’re particularly interested in the display of the model sitting on an angled stand, allowing it to assume the Concorde’s classic take-off position.
For those unaware, the cockpit nose on this aircraft would descend so that the pilots could see the runway during take-off and landing. The high angle of attack required a moveable visor, which could then settle into a streamlined, classic aeroplane shape for supersonic flight. It will be fun to see which LEGO elements are used to achieve this effect on the model itself.
No one who ever stood under the flight path of these mythic aeroplanes could ever forget the ear-shattering sound as they shot through the air. Before retiring, the craft could reach double the speed of sound (Mach 2.03). We’re sure plenty of LEGO fans will be queuing up to board the brick-built model for one more maiden flight come September…
In other news, the LEGO website has just revealed another new GWP set – 40594 Houses of the World 3. This is the third in a line of architectural houses based on cultural styles across the globe. Previous instalments in this gift-with-purchase series included a North African homestead and a South American residence.
The latest Houses of the World set is styled on a Swiss home, with logs piled up outside and a chalet roof with a chimney. This home has a distinctly cosy feel, which looks like the kind of place you would want to be tucked up inside during the cold winter months. The interiors reveal a living room with a sofa straight out of an Ikea show home and a coffee table made from a tree set beside a warm hearth.
The 278-piece Switzerland-inspired house is not one to be missed if you own any of the previous releases. Thanks to their modular design, all three sets in the series can be displayed in a row. LEGO gifts with purchases are always unique and highly collectable, so consider picking this set as your add-on next time you complete a big purchase on the LEGO website.
