Building An iDisplayit LEGO Display Case for The First Time

We Challenged Our Newest Member of Staff To Build One Of Our Premium LEGO Display Cases (Without Instructions!)

Building a LEGO Display Case

At iDisplayit, we are proud of our innovative display cases, which feature a unique screw system to maintain strength and sturdiness, using high-quality, specially sourced 3mm clear acrylic.

But how easy is it to assemble a flat-packed protective LEGO collectable display case once received in the post?

We challenged our newest member of staff to do just that…

Unpacking

iDisplayit Panels to Assemble

“Here they are – the flat-packed components which will form the finished display box. First order of the day: removing the blue plastic film from the clear acrylic panels, so they are ready to assemble. I also set a timer to see how long the build would take…”

Peeling protective film off acrylic panel

“At first, I was slightly too gentle with the film, not wanting to scratch the materials. Once I loosened a corner, I found it much more effective to yank the film free, as some corners required more force. All the panels were perfectly shiny and unblemished once finished.”

“Next, I laid out the black base for the finished box to sit on. You can see the cut-outs which securely hold the side panels by slotting the edges into place.”

Attaching The Acrylic Panels

Placing iDisplayit fittings into acrylic panel

“Now it was time to attach the screw fittings to the indents on the panels. This was very easy – once the fittings are in place, they sit very snugly in the panel without moving. It is a very smart design, and the translucent style of the fittings helps them to remain concealed.”

using allen key to screw in iDisplayit fittings

“The screws themselves easily rotate into the custom panel fittings, using the Allen key provided. Everything had clearly been made from high-quality, reliable materials. I did notice that the fittings can come slightly loose if you tighten the screws too much and may put pressure on the acrylic, so it is worth taking your time and ensuring you don’t overtighten the screws into the fittings.”

iDisplayit panels fitting together for case

“The shape of the protective display case was really starting to come together by this point. Even without the base and lid supports, the connected panels felt durable and reliable.”

Finishing Touches

“Almost there! Just the lid to slot in place on top before the clear container is placed onto the base.”

Finished LEGO display case from iDisplayit

“And there you have it: one assembled iDisplayit display case, ready to house a LEGO set or collectable in style! The total time taken to build was just over 18 minutes. I could probably manage it even quicker next time…”
