Boomerang Bricks – New UK LEGO Rental Service Launched

WE TRIED OUT A NEW LEGO SET HIRE SERVICE FOR A MONTH

New UK LEGO Rental Service Launched

LEGO sets are wonderful things, allowing adults and kids to get together and create their favourite epic starships, castles, cars, dioramas and more. But there’s no escaping from the fact that larger models tend to be expensive, making them hard to purchase for parents struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.

Recently founded and UK-based Boomerang Bricks aims to help, with the original idea of offering a LEGO subscription service, whereby members can ‘rent’ some of the bestselling models, taking as long as they want to build and display them before returning the set in exchange for the next one.

How Does the LEGO Subscription Model Work?

The first step is to subscribe to one of Boomerang Brick’s three pricing plans –

LEGO® Fan: £15/month = 1 LEGO set per month

LEGO® Pro: £25/month = 2 LEGO sets per month

LEGO® Legend: £35/month = 3 LEGO® sets per month OR 1 Legend LEGO set per month

The number and range of sets you can rent changes with the pricing plan. So, for larger sets such as Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle 76419 or the Millennium Falcon 75105, you’ll have to pick the ‘LEGO Legend’ option. Check out the full list of available sets here.

Once you have ordered a set, it gets delivered to your home for free. As long as your subscription remains active, you can then build, rebuild and display it wherever you like. You then return it when you are ready using the free returns label – just make sure you keep all the bricks and elements safe so you can repackage the set.

Our Thoughts

We were offered one month’s free subscription, which we used to rent the Disney Walt Disney Tribute Camera (as seen displayed in our exhibition case above).

The set arrived promptly and well-packaged, and we were able to get it built and put out on display without issue. As collectors, we prefer to own most models permanently; however, the cost-saving logic of the service cannot be denied for parents with kids who are likely to get bored of the same models and want to try their hands at constructing new ones on a regular basis.

The service could also prove helpful for shops or even offices that want to provide their staff with a fun (literal!) team-building exercise before displaying the completed models around the building to brighten up their spaces.

Boomerang Bricks is still a new enterprise. However, we think they are definitely onto something interesting with the rental service concept and may have found a business niche and solution for those looking for a cost-saving way to borrow expensive LEGO models.

One of our primary questions concerning the service was what would happen if you lost any of the bricks or elements. In cases such as this, Boomerang Bricks include a form to mark lost pieces when you return the model. While the company will replace easy-to-source bricks as a sign of goodwill, any unique or rare pieces will understandably be chargeable to customers. Therefore, anyone using the service should take care not to let pieces get damaged or muddled up and lost in their child’s own collection.

If you want to try out the service, you can get 50% off your first month’s subscription with promo code BOOMERANG50. With half price off, you can rent over £100 worth of LEGO for just £17.50 if you subscribe to the LEGO Legend price plan.
